GRANDINART TIDBITS

Welcome to Grandinart Tidbits! The purpose of this section is to help you get to know me and my art.  Often I am asked questions about “how I start a painting” , what “influences my paintings” or just “how do I begin a painting”. I hope you will enjoy this glimpse into the life of an artist.

I was an art teacher before I really decided to paint. It was a huge leap to begin exhibiting my work. I had received a Master of Fine Arts in Art Education from Boston University and was destined to be professor in a college but when my son turned 7, I decided teaching was no longer for me. That was 13 years ago.

10 years ago, I tore the labrum in my right shoulder playing tennis. I had surgery to repair it, but complications occured and for a period of 5 years had one surgery after another. Because of the first surgery, all the cartilage in my shoulder was destroyed. Wearing a sling, I would paint. I worked on the floor, painted with my left hand and I prayed to God that I could endure the pain. To this day, I am often in pain when I work. I seldom do vertical paintings because I can’t lift my shoulder up high enough or long enough to work. I have been in Physical Therapy for 10 years and must continue until I get a shoulder replacement. It was during this time I realized I was on a spiritual journey and was called by a higher being to paint. This passion became a spiritual mission and now I try to help others and reach out to those battling pain or problems. I realize that my situation is minor compared to the many people I have gotten to know. My paintings hopefully reflect my spirituality and i welcome you to enjoy them. I will continue adding to this site in the future. It is my hope to share my love of art and my spiritual journey with you! Welcome to the art of Anne Grandin, visual artist.
